In 1923, at the age of 28, Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman founded the Alexander Doll Company. Having grown up in her stepfather’s doll hospital on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, she believed dolls should be played with and loved—without breaking like the porcelain dolls of her time, and without sacrificing details or quality.
The Alexander Doll Company has been heavily celebrated throughout popular culture. Our dolls have been featured in the Smithsonian Museum, and in 2000, Madame Alexander was inducted into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame. Partnerships with famous names from fashion and film produced collaborations with brands such as Disney, DC Comics, Warner Brothers, and Isaac Mizrahi.
